 Clean up your act

 Question:

I don’t get spots all the time. Do I need to bother washing my face when my skin’s okay?

 Mark, 18, Donacaster

 Our Expert:

Yes! Prevention is better than cure, so if your skin looks great then make sure it stays that way! Spots are caused by a variety of factors including clogged pores, excess oil and bacteria. So even if your skin isn’t that oily you’ll still need to keep your pores clear of dirt and dead skin cells and help stop the spread of spot-causing bacteria. The best way to help tackle all the causes of spots is to use Clearasil washes, gel washes, cleansers, pads or wipes twice a day, every day. Simple!

 Fragile, Handle with care

 Question:

My skin hates me! Every time I use stuff on it it goes red and feels really dry and tight. What can I do about my spots without frying my skin?

 Laura, 16, Leeds

 Our Expert:

Sounds like you’ve got sensitive skin. If your skin is sensitive, you’ll need to be even more careful about the products you use. It could be that some products are just too harsh, and leave your skin looking a bit red or feeling dry and tight. To help prevent spots and care for your sensitive skin, try Clearasil Stayclear Skin Perfecting Wash Sensitive.

 Can’t stop washing

 Question:

My skin feels really horrible and greasy so I wash it all the time – at least six times a day. I also use water that’s as hot as I can stand. But whatever I do, it doesn’t seem to work. Help!

 Jon, 13, Birmingham

 Our Expert:

When you’ve got spots, it can be tempting to wash your face more than usual. But over-cleansing can actually make the problem worse, drying your skin out and sometimes causing it to produce more oil. Your best bet is to wash twice a day, using an effective cleanser like Clearasil Stayclear Skin Perfecting Wash. As for temperature, just go for what feels comfortable – warm water that’s not too hot or too cold, and pat dry gently.

 You scrubber!

 Question:

I like using scrubs because they go really deep and I feel really clean. But when I use a scrub every day my skin hurts. How often should I use my face scrub?

 Helen, 19, Aylesbury

 Our Expert:

It’s a tricky one – scrub too much and your skin could become irritated or start producing more oil to compensate; not enough and it just won’t be effective. We reckon 3 to 4 times a week should do it for skin that’s prone to breakouts.

 Sunscreen trauma

 Question:

Help! I’m confused. Magazines are always saying that I should use sunscreens every day but I’ve got spots and want to sunbathe to blitz them. What should I do? And another thing, if I use a sunscreen won’t my skin go all greasy? It’s greasy enough as it is.
